Like most people I was a hand knitter for many years, and having a large family of 6 children I decided to get a knitting machine in 1979, as my children were growing faster than I could knit for them, the first one being a Singer 500 which I found very daunting, didn't get very far with it and after several years I went and did 2½ years of Technical College on a Singer 360 punch card which I duly bought, and from there I never looked back.

I went from Singer to Brother electronic machines firstly because I wanted a Garter Carriage, and loved all the possibilities the machine had to offer, and now I have several of them including the Bulky 270, I do prefer to knit on the electronic machines because of the wonderful patterning capabilities they offer especially the 200 stitch feature as I love big patterns!

I do quite a lot of sideways knitting as it lends itself to flattering style and elegance and everybody can wear it!

I have lectured nationally and internationally, and have been running a knitting club in my home for over 12 years, I have been lucky enough to win major prizes in the Sydney Royal, and New Zealand Festival as well as local shows.

Charlene started machine knitting in January of 1969. Teaching is a love and knitting is a passion. Charlene has authored over 200 books on anything from Crafty Ideas, Afghans, Baby Clothes, Holiday Items and many books of garments.
